Metallic Implant Research
My research area mainly revolves around understanding how metallic implants perform in the body. This includes forensic analysis of retrieved medical implants to understand what factors lead to its failure. I also study how cathodic voltages on metallic biomaterials can influence cells and proteins at its interface and how it can ultimately impact its biocompatibility. This also involves studying the impact of inflammation on device performance. Other topics include electrochemical, surface characterization of biomaterials and development of novel techniques for time lapse imaging of cell behavior on metallic biomaterials.
